Cheap Domain Names and Web Hosting Price Comparison

Domain Names

We have a lot of friends and family members asking us how to start a website, register domain names, and deal with domain name hosting.

So, we decided to share some of our research to help save them time and point them in the right direction. Once upon a time, we got stuck with some bad web hosts and domain registrars and didn’t want our friends making the same mistakes we did.

If this site helps you sift through the competition to make you a more informed buyer, then we’ve done our job.

We used to get our domain names with Bluehost because that’s who we using for web hosting, and they offered free domain name privacy registration. But they’ve recently started to charge $4.95 per domain name per year to keep our domain registration contact information private, so we’re in the market looking for a better deal.

Here’s what we’ve found so far. We’ve put the data into a sortable cheap domain name comparison tool to help you find discount domain names.

About Us

The long and the short of it is we got suckered into some bad deals because we didn’t know any better. We’re Canadian, and we wanted to support Canadian web hosts. (We had accounts with both WebServe.ca and BlackSun.ca). I think at one point, we were paying over $30 per year for a Canadian domain name and over $7 a month for a website that had 5 email addresses, a small server that took forever to load, and horrible technical support.)

Half way through our contract, we wanted some more domain names, but didn’t want to pay $30 for a domain. So we started to do some research about domain name hosting and cheap domain names. We started to learn how to maintain your privacy when you register a domain name and we started to look at the big names: GoDaddy, Network Solutions, 1&1

Originally, we were just looking for some domain names, but we got suckered into reading about their webhosting plans. It didn’t take us long to realize that we could get more for less.

We found several places that offered:

  • 300 Gigabytes of Hosting Space
  • Allowed you to host unlimited domains on 1 account at no extra cost
  • 5000 Pop/Imap Email Accounts
  • 3,000 Gigs of Transfer
  • A free domain registration forever
  • etc, etc, etc.

In the end, we decided to use WordPress hosted by BlueHost, but that was our personal decision. You might find another company more to your liking.

Good luck finding a great domain name and an even better web host!
